UpCharge - charging a startup with location intelligence

UpCharge is a power bank sharing tech startup from Finland. Their business idea is to set up power bank stations in public places, where people can rent power banks to keep their phones charged.

The company needed a clearer understanding of where to place their power bank stations, how to manage the inventory between hubs, and what factors influence customer behaviour. This is where the Location Innovation Hub came in.

Our partner Gispo provided UpCharge with comprehensive location data consultancy. This included creating interactive map visualisations to help UpCharge better understand where and when their chargers are being used and how customers move around. Using tools such as Kepler.gl, UpCharge was able to see where demand was highest and how chargers were moving between locations.

The company was pleased with the results:

"We have gained valuable insights into the use of geospatial data in our customer segment, which has helped our sales efforts”, says Pauli Mankinen, one of the co-founders.

This kind of location-based intelligence helped UpCharge make more strategic decisions about where to locate their power bank stations, which directly contributed to their business development.
