Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency - Support for the digital twin of the transport network

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency is responsible for developing and maintaining the state-owned road network, the railways and the waterways. It is also responsible for the service level of transport and is involved in the coordination of transport and land use.

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s vision is to build a digital model of the transport network to support transport infrastructure management in the best possible way, as well as a digital twin of the most important sites. The agency turned to the Location Innovation Hub for technical advice on developing a digital model.

Matti Pesu, Development Manager, The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency:

“The development of a digital twin for the transport network is also a challenge in terms of information security. We turned to the Location Innovation Hub for help in defining the security concept for the digital twin.

Within the LIH partner network, we found a partner in Spatineo, who offered to help us with consultancy services.

We organised a workshop to establish a starting point and a follow-up plan to define the information security concept. The workshop succeeded in bringing the experts together and the result was an overview of the security challenges posed by the digital twin and a concise description of how these challenges can be addressed.

In workshops, ideas often fly around. It is worth bearing this in mind when setting objectives and preparing for further discussions after the workshop.”
