Is your organisation working with real-world mobility and transportation challenges and looking to solve them with location data and digital technologies? The Geospatial Challenge Camp Finland invites companies, public and non-profit organisations to join as partners for the 2026 Camp on the theme of Sustainable Mobility and Transportation. The Camp will run from February to May in 2026.

During the Camp, multidisciplinary teams of students and early-career researchers collaborate with partners and stakeholders to co-create innovative and sustainable solutions using location data and digital technologies. Potential application areas include:

• improving active travel (walking and cycling)
• enhancing public transport and shared mobility
• advancing electric and smart mobility
• designing resilient and green infrastructure
• promoting accessibility and environmental justice
• understanding mobility behaviour to support inclusive, efficient and sustainable movement.

Partnering with the Camp

Partners can contribute in several ways:

• Challenge theme owners: Bring a real-world mobility or transportation challenge and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical solutions.
• Data providers: Share mobility or transportation-related location data for teams to explore and innovate with.
• Mentors: Guide teams with your expertise in thematic areas, digital tools, or data-driven methods.
• Policy Makers: Advise on information needs and link insights to sustainable policy and decision-making.
• Partners / Sponsors: Support the Camp’s practical arrangements (e.g., venues, catering), provide scholarships or awards, and help enable impactful solutions.

Teams collaborate mainly online, with a two-day on-site kick-off in February, a one-day midterm seminar, and a half-day public final event in May, held alongside Geoinformatics Research Days 2026.

Geospatial Challenge Camp also strengthens Finland’s geospatial competence and innovation ecosystem by fostering collaboration between research, business, and sustainable development expertise.
