25.02.2025New free guide: Guidance on Accurate Positioning and Sensor Technologies
Guidance on Accurate Positioning and Sensor Technologies is a free resource that provides practical support for the adoption of accurate GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning across a range of sectors.
One of the aims of the Location Innovation Hub is to help businesses take advantage of the benefits of accurate positioning technologies. This guide is designed to make it easier for businesses to integrate accurate positioning technologies into their operations. It helps SMEs select the positioning sensors and augmentation solutions that best suit their needs.
The guide also highlights how accurate positioning can be used in the built environment, forestry, agriculture and food production, as well as unmanned aerial systems. It also discusses cybersecurity considerations, addressing some of the emerging challenges in the field. The guide also provides an overview of the differences between global and national coordinate systems. In addition, it covers the role of height and geoid models in GNSS positioning and explains why geoid models are crucial for accurate height measurements.
"This guide is a useful resource for those who want to implement or improve GNSS-based positioning in their business. Understanding the principles, methods and challenges of satellite positioning can help SMEs and other organisations make better-informed decisions that lead to efficient and accurate operations," says Professor Hannu Koivula, Head of Department at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute and editor of the guide.
