FOSS4G: Location Innovation Hub on show in Kosovo
The FOSS4G event brings together the open source geospatial software community every year. This year's meeting took place in Prizren, Kosovo, from late June to early July. Location Innovation Hub sponsored the event together with the GeoE3 project.
The week-long event attracted around 800 attendees from around the world. The extensive programme consisted of keynote speeches, company and software status updates, exciting use cases, open data and standards hot topics and workshops.
The joint stand of Location Innovation Hub and GeoE3 was open from Wednesday to Friday 26.6 - 28.6.
“The stand was very busy every day. The Innovation Hubs are not well known to the general public, but companies were interested when we told them that we offer services to improve business efficiency, which are in principle free of charge”, Joonas Jokela, Network and Cooperation Manager at the Location Innovation Hub, explains.
The expertise of an extensive network of partners
The audience at FOSS4G is mainly made up of geospatial professionals, and the event provided an opportunity to meet and discuss with a range of companies. Topics of interest to professionals include the GeoE3 data platform and the Location Innovation Academy online training package.
“At the heart of FOSS4G are open solutions, collaboration and mutual support. We at Location Innovation Hub have a lot to contribute to this as well," says Faris Alsuhail, LIH’s Technical Support Manager.
This year's FOSS4G event took place in Prizren, Kosovo. The vibrant city of around 178 000 inhabitants was also introduced to event participants through evening parties and other side events.
When it comes to the services available to businesses, the Location Innovation Hub's strength lies in its extensive network of partners. There are currently almost 40 organisations involved in the Location Innovation Hub.
“Our network includes a number of open source and geospatial companies with whom we provide training and other services," Jokela points out.
