The Location Innovation Hub has published a free guide that aims to provide a general overview of data integration, both theory and practice, in a geospatial context.
The amount of data in the world is constantly growing, but it is not always obvious that data can be used effectively. Data quality and usability have become key issues. Data needs to be interoperable with different systems and services. At the same time, the need to modify and process data has grown. That's where data integration comes in.
The Geospatial Data Integration Guide is aimed at anyone interested in geospatial data and technologies who needs guidance on how to integrate and use data effectively. The guide provides an overview of geospatial data integration. It introduces the topic through practical examples and includes information on tools for extracting, transforming and loading data.
The guide is aimed, for example, at developers of geospatial software, people who work with data, or researchers who need to use and process geospatial data in their work.
“As we live in the midst of vast amounts of data, geospatial technologies are also increasingly present in our daily lives, for example through smart devices. All of this has increased the demand for data integration skills and solutions. We hope that the guide will be useful to many people working with geospatial data," says Ilpo Tammi from Ubigu, the editor of the guide.
Download the guide and give feedback
The Geospatial Data Integration Guide has been developed with the input of experts from many of the partner organisations of the Location Innovation Hub. It is a work in progress and will be updated regularly. Any feedback on the development of the guide is very welcome.
