16.05.2024The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation – spatial data skills for nature conservation
The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (FANC) is the oldest and most influential environmental organisation in the country. It is a non-governmental organisation, mainly based on voluntary work, which promotes nature and environmental protection at local, regional and national level. The central organisation and the district organisations together employ around 60 people. There are also thousands of volunteers across the country.
The Location Innovation Hub provided the FANC with tailored training on how to use and exploit geospatial data to support their advocacy work.
Hanna Halmeenpää, President of the Board, The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation:
“We wanted to train our members in the use of geospatial data so that it could be better used to promote nature conservation. The Location Innovation Hub provided us with a training webinar on this topic.
Based on the feedback we received, the webinar was very useful. Many of our members across the country now have a better understanding of the basics and how to use publicly available geospatial data. This knowledge can be used by our members, for example, in advocacy work in their own area. They can now better anticipate and respond to changes that are happening or planned in the environment.
Geospatial data can now also be better used for the development of our associations' own initiatives. The webinar was well organised and allowed participation from all over Finland. The training cooperation was very flexible and smooth.”
