14.10.2026Building and Climate Data Combined in a Location Data Space Demo
A workshop organised by Location Innovation Hub in October showcased a working data space solution that brought together building data from the National Land Survey of Finland’s National Topographic Database (KMTK) and the Ryhti built environment information system with climate data from the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
The demonstration showed how data and processing services from different organisations can be accessed and used in a controlled way through a data space.

An example of a data space solution combining building data with temperature, wind and sunshine data.
The workshop identified three key areas for further development:
- Building data quality: Improving the quality, coverage and timeliness of KMTK and Ryhti data.
- Energy renovations in housing companies: Combining building data with energy consumption and renovation data to support investment decisions.
- Energy efficiency of the building stock: Improving the data available for monitoring energy efficiency and implementing the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
The discussions also highlighted how data spaces can help reduce the costs of developing new information systems by making better use of existing data resources and services.
The next step is to prepare concrete pilot projects in collaboration with different organisations. Potential opportunities will be explored in connection with the ALEX project, led by the City of Helsinki and Forum Virium Helsinki, and KIRAHub’s data space development activities.
